The attempt to drain the pool seems to have failed as water levels are now back to normal and a lot of waterfowl were back, including a pair of Whooper Swans.

One of
the Lochlea Farm fields (NS 457 304) floods freely within easy viewing of a byway. The farm is
located 4km north-east of Tarbolton and can be approached along a minor road connecting the
A719 and B744. Please park with care to avoid obstructing the single track road or the farmer's
access and view from the road. The location can be reached safely by cycle but public transport
is a fair walk away.
Parking on verge far from ideal, can be viewed from car
through gap in hedge.
Easily accessed along quiet road.
The pool is a magnet for migrant waterfowl and waders. Many good sightings have been recorded here. These include Shoveler, Pintail, Ruff, Black-tailed Godwit, Whimbrel and Green Sandpiper.
