Description

By Coach to the Borders, Northumberland Coast, Coquet Island and the Farne Islands.

Meet at Dodds Coach depot in Ayr (cars may be left here) at 07.45 hrs. Our route will take us across the A70 to Douglas and the M74 to Abington Services (toilets and coffees). On along the A702 and A72 through Peebles to Galashiels and Gunknowe Loch and Park for a short visit to bird the woodland the water (and a picnic lunch). Alternatively, the time may be spent at Melrose with its Abbey and Priorwood Gardens. In the afternoon we will visit The Hirsel, where breeding bird activity on the lake and woodlands dominate. We then drive on to our hotel for two nights at either Bamburgh or Seahouses.  The following day we take a boat trip out to see the wonders of the Farne Islands. On Monday we drive south to Amble and a visit by boat to Coquet Island for the breeding roseate terns. Our return route will be along the B6138 where we may stop to see the highlights of Hadrian's Wall. Dinner en-route to Ayr and return for around 22.00 hrs. The cost including coach trip and two nights bed and breakfast should be in the region of £175 depending on numbers. This may be booked any time from October onwards.
